Glossary

  • A reduction in vision in one eye compared to the other even with glasses or contacts.

  • A vision problem that occurs when light entering the eye is unable to be brought into a single, clear focus, resulting in blurry vision. Astigmatism can occur with nearsightedness or farsightedness.

  • The coordinated movement and focus of our two eyes inward on close objects.

  • When the eyes do not come together closely enough when looking at a near object so the eyes are essentially looking “past” the target focal point. This is a common problem.

  • Double vision. This can result when our eyes do not aim in the same place, either at distance or up close.

  • According to the International Dyslexia Association, dyslexia is: “a language-based learning disability [and] refers to a cluster of symptoms that result in people having difficulties with specific language skills, particularly reading.” Dyslexia is not a vision problem, but a substantial number of individuals with dyslexia have other vision problems.

  • The inability to see close objects easily and clearly.

  • The inability to see objects at a distance.

  • When the two eyes do not work together. One of the two eyes will turn in a different direction than the other, which is result of poor eye muscle control.

Vision Therapy

Vision therapy is similar to physical therapy, but instead of a joint or muscle, it works with the eyes and brain. There is a neurological component with this kind of therapy because the eyes are an extension of the brain. Our eyes help make “seeing” possible, but vision is reliant on the eye-brain connection. If either of these organs are not working properly, vision will be difficult or non-existent.
